Most of us have heard of the wonderful work that Doctors Without Borders does for patients and their families when they are in need of help and/or information regarding care of an ill person. There are doctors and nurses who head these organizations and professionals who do chores, errands and whatever may be needed to aid a family in patient care. What I didn’t know until recently is that many of these services are provided by volunteers.
A few friends and I organized a fundraiser to help our local hospice organization and we were amazed at how much we could do with so little effort. My friend Joan had once participated in a church fundraiser using “Silver Cup Coffee”. With the help of their web site, we were able to earn enough money to provide lots of equipment such as canes, walkers, bath chairs and other needed equipment as well as funding some of the volunteer’s gas money.
